SPRING PHOTO DAY

On Monday, May 6 Lifetouch will be here to take spring photos. Make sure to wear your favourite shirt and put on your best smile!

MENTAL HEALTH WEEK

May 6 – 12 is Canadian Mental Health Week. The focus this year is on showing compassion to others. Classes will have an opportunity to learn about compassion and how we can be compassionate with our classmates and with ourselves.

On Wednesday, May 8th we will recognize “Hats on for Mental Health” day by having students wear their favourite hat or headband to school that day.

SCHOOL COUNCIL

Did you know that G.W. Skene and James Short Memorial share a School Council? We are hoping to increase parent participation for the coming school year. With a strong school council, we would be able to fundraise, access casino funds, and create a vibrant school community and memorable experiences for our students!

If you have ever thought about joining the School Council, we have an online information session coming up that will provide you with valuable information! If you are interested in attending this virtual workshop please reach out to Kyra, your school council chair at jsm.gwskeneparentcouncil@gmail.com and she will send you the link.

 School Council Purpose

May 13th 6:30pm-8:00pm

Through this workshop we will gain an understanding of the advisory role of school councils through a review of the legislation, exploring rights, responsibilities and choices including topics/areas open for discussion to help guide school council. We will also learn how to identify the work of school councils, how to frame a "personal issue" from a school council perspective and how to broach sensitive topics which are essential for new and returning members.

 COMMUNITY RESOURCES

In support of Canadian Mental Health Week, we wanted to share a link to resources that support parents in navigating positive childhood mental health.
