Reminder – Fall Break  

A reminder that there is NO SCHOOL for students November 10 to 12. We are looking forward to welcoming students back on Thursday, November 13. Enjoy the long weekend!   

Observing Remembrance Day  

This week, our classes took time to learn about Remembrance Day and remember the sacrifices made to protect our freedom. Students expressed their respect by creating beautiful poppy art and wreaths, which now decorate our main hallway as a tribute. Additionally, stories of veterans were shared during book exchange this week. Each student received a poppy today to wear over the next few days. 

We will be observing a moment of silence on Thursday, November 13th at 11:00 as a school community.   

School Council   

We are looking forward to our next school council meeting. As we return to school and are focused on student learning goals, we invite parents to join us to talk about our school goals for the year and how parents can work with us to support student growth. The next council meeting will be held at James Short Memorial on Tuesday, November 18th at 3:45 pm. Light refreshments and childcare will be available.   

Grade 6 Updates   

Immunizations - Parents will have already received communication about the upcoming immunizations for Grade 6 students on Thursday, November 13. To prepare, students are encouraged to wear a short-sleeved shirt and bring an extra snack that day.   

Junior High School Visits – Grade 6 students will have the opportunity to visit their designated junior high in the coming weeks. Students who reside in Penbrooke Meadows will visit Ernest Morrow Junior High, while students who reside in Applewood will visit Dr. Gladys McKelvie Egbert School. We recognize that you may be considering another option for Grade 7, however we encourage all students to attend these opportunities to learn about the transition to junior high, option courses, and the next step in their education. Please email Ms. McElhinney (memcelhinney@cbe.ab.ca) with any questions or concerns.
