Winter Break  

We hope everyone has a relaxing Winter Break spending time with their loved ones and enjoying their favourite pass times!  A reminder that students and staff are on break from Friday, December 22nd, 2023, to return Monday, January 8, 2024. 

Grade Three Sharing Assembly

Thank you to all of the families that joined us for our Grade 3 Sharing Assembly. Our students were so proud to share all of their learning and practice with their families. A special thanks to our amazing team of teachers for putting the event together! 

 

Books on Buses 

CBE Transportation has worked with The Little Red Reading House Book Bank (part of the University of Calgary’s Owerko Centre) to establish the Books On Buses Project. Our school has been selected to take part in this opportunity. 

 

In the coming weeks, The Little Red Reading House Book Bank will provide crates filled with new and gently used books for students to read while they are on the bus. There will be a mix of age-appropriate picture, chapter and non-fiction books. 

 

To start the project, students are asked to return the books at the end of each trip to share with other students. We will monitor how many books are being used and how often they need to be replenished in the new year. The long-term goal being that students may also take the books home to encourage reading, as well as to help pass the time while they are on the bus. 

 

Respect Yourself, Others, and This Place  

One of our mottos at GW Skene is to “Respect Yourself, Respect Others, and Respect This Place”. We are proud of our learning community and want everyone to feel welcome, safe, and respected in our building and on our school property.  

 

As we work together to show our children how we respect others and this place, we want to remind families that all CBE properties (buildings, parking lots, and fields) are smoke-free environments. Lost and Found 

We have a large number of items in our school Lost and Found. We will be packing it up by January 12. If your child is missing items, please have them check the Lost and Found on the first week back to school.
